(Central News Agency, reporter Kao Hua-chien, Taipei, June 6) The National Union of Taiwan Women's Organizations today began a disaster prevention specialist training for family caregivers, attracting about 70 female participants. Deputy Minister of the Interior Tung Chien-hung stated that he hopes the participants will bring disaster prevention concepts back to their families after the course, becoming a frontline resilient force protecting local communities.

The Ministry of the Interior stated in a press release today that in response to extreme weather and compound disasters, the ministry is actively promoting the participation of civil groups in disaster prevention specialist training to enhance society's disaster response resilience. The National Union of Taiwan Women's Organizations is holding the "2026 Family Caregiver Disaster Prevention Specialist Training" today and tomorrow at the Kaohsiung Office of the Irrigation Agency, in collaboration with local groups including the Kaohsiung Women's Awakening Association, the Kaohsiung Color Page Women's Vision Association, and the Kaohsiung Diverse Family Care Association, attracting about 70 female participants.

Tung Chien-hung pointed out that the true foundation of disaster prevention work lies not only in the government's promotion of various policies and measures but also in each family's daily disaster preparedness. Whether it is discussing evacuation routes together, preparing disaster prevention kits in advance, or reminding each other of response methods during disasters, these small daily actions can gradually enhance a family's ability to cope with disaster risks.

Tung Chien-hung stated that it is therefore very important to cultivate disaster prevention awareness and self-help and mutual aid capabilities among all citizens during peacetime. The disaster prevention specialist system is one of the key policies promoted by the government for nationwide disaster prevention education and autonomous disaster prevention.

The Ministry of the Interior noted that this training covers courses including the operation of Taiwan's disaster prevention system, personal home protection scenario drills, and hands-on first aid measures. Professor Peng Yen-wen from the Institute of Public Affairs Management at National Sun Yat-sen University was invited to guide students on how to transform from bystanders into capable guardians. Personnel from the Kaohsiung City Government Disaster Prevention and Rescue Office and the Kaohsiung City Fire Bureau also shared their frontline disaster prevention and rescue experiences.
