(Central News Agency reporter Zheng Weizhen, Nantou, 6th) The Taiwan Railway Administration (TRA) announced today that the Jiji Line, a popular route among tourists and railway enthusiasts, will hold its full-line reopening ceremony on June 25 at Checheng Station. Originally scheduled to resume full service in July, the construction progress has been accelerated, allowing the line to fully reopen between Ershui Station in Changhua County and Checheng Station in Nantou County before the summer vacation.

The Jiji Line departs from Ershui Station in Changhua, passes through Yuanquan Station, and then enters Nantou County, stopping at Zhuoshui, Longquan, Jiji, and Shuili Stations before terminating at Checheng Station. According to the Tourism Administration's website, the Jiji Line is not only the longest branch line of the TRA but also a pioneer of Taiwan's tourism railways, and is currently the only operating railway in Nantou County.

In August 2021, a landslide at the 11.5-kilometer mark of Provincial Highway 16 caused a large amount of earth and rock to cover and crush the Jiji Line tunnel, which runs parallel to the highway. The line was subsequently suspended to carry out disaster recovery and infrastructure improvement projects. The TRA resumed the first phase of service to Jiji Station in January of this year.

The TRA told CNA that while full operations were originally planned for July, the accelerated construction has led to the ceremony being scheduled for June 25 at Checheng Station. After the full line reopens, it is expected to not only improve travel convenience but also, in conjunction with local tourism resources and related measures, attract crowds to ride the Jiji Line and boost tourism along the route.
