The Central Weather Administration (CWA) announced that tomorrow (June 6), as a low-pressure system moves away, rainfall will be lighter than today, but western Taiwan still needs to be cautious of localized heavy rain. Next week, influenced by a stationary front and southwesterly winds, from June 9 to 12, western Taiwan, northeastern Taiwan, and the mountainous areas of Hualien and Taitung should be on alert for localized heavy or torrential rain.
The CWA issued a heavy rain and torrential rain advisory on the afternoon of June 5. Due to the low-pressure system, short-duration heavy rainfall is likely. Today, areas including Kaohsiung City, Pingtung County, and the mountainous regions of New Taipei City, Yunlin County, Chiayi County, and Tainan City may experience localized heavy or torrential rain. Areas north of Hsinchu, Nantou, Tainan, Yilan, Taitung, and other mountainous regions should also watch for localized heavy rain. Mountainous areas should beware of landslides, falling rocks, and rising river levels, while low-lying areas should guard against flooding.
CWA forecaster Lin Ting-yi told CNA that tomorrow (June 6) the low pressure will gradually move away, and the rain will ease compared to today, but western Taiwan still has a chance of localized heavy rain. He mentioned, "Tomorrow will be the relatively better day in the coming week."
On June 7, a new front will form near southern China, and Taiwan will be affected by a low-pressure belt. Lin stated that central and southern Taiwan will have localized, irregular brief showers or thunderstorms, while other areas will be cloudy with localized brief afternoon thundershowers. Eastern Taiwan may experience short-duration heavy rain or torrential rain due to wind convergence.
On June 8, a front will approach and southwesterly winds will strengthen. Lin pointed out that central Taiwan will have irregular brief showers or thunderstorms, and "the rain on the 8th will be more significant than on the 7th." Northern and northeastern Taiwan will have localized brief showers or thunderstorms, while Hualien and Taitung will be cloudy with localized brief afternoon thundershowers. Central and southern Taiwan may have irregular localized heavy rain, and mountainous areas should be cautious of localized heavy rain in the afternoon.
Lin indicated that from June 9 to 12, under the influence of a stationary front and southwesterly winds, western Taiwan, northeastern Taiwan, and the mountainous areas of Hualien and Taitung will experience irregular showers or thunderstorms, with the possibility of localized heavy or torrential rain. The plains of Hualien and Taitung will have brief showers or thunderstorms.
Regarding temperatures, Lin said that before June 8, the high in the north will rise to 33-34°C, central Taiwan 34°C, and the south around 32-33°C. Afterwards, due to the front and northeasterly winds, along with more significant rain, the high in the north may drop to 26-28°C, central Taiwan around 27-28°C, and the south 29-30°C.
