(CNA Seoul Combined Foreign News) NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang kicked off his highly anticipated visit to South Korea on the 5th, dining in Seoul with SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, LG Group Chairman Koo Kwang-mo, and NAVER Chairman Lee Hae-jin on grilled pork belly and "soju beer," drawing a large crowd of people hoping to catch a glimpse of Huang.
According to The Korea Herald, at the grilled pork belly restaurant "Ga Nawassoyo" in Seoul's Hongdae area, Huang and Chey Tae-won enjoyed the Korean bomb drink "soju beer," a popular mix of soju and beer. Following local custom, Huang stirred the drink with a spoon to create foam before toasting.
Huang and the three Korean business leaders shouted together: "Fighting, Korea! SK, LG, Naver, cheers!"
Huang also stepped out of the restaurant during the meal to speak with the media, saying he came to South Korea to thank NVIDIA's local partners and celebrate a fruitful past year.
"Korea has performed exceptionally well; my partners in Korea are very important to me. So I came to Korea to thank them, celebrate this remarkable year, and congratulate them. And this is just the beginning," he said.
"The four big gifts I bring to Korea are Vera Rubin, Vera, RTX Spark, and Jetson Thor. Of course, we will also build a very important R&D center here," Huang noted.
He pointed out that these new products use memory chips produced by Korean suppliers Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, such as HBM and LPDDR5 chips.
He also mentioned that NVIDIA's partnership with Hyundai Motor in the robotics field is growing, and collaborations with LG, SK, Samsung, and Naver are all "flourishing."
Huang added that besides business, he wanted to take the opportunity to enjoy the local culture. "There's great grilled corn, awesome HBM chips, and the world's best fried chicken. I'll also experience Korean culture, like K-pop, maybe watch a K-drama. K-dramas always make me want to cry."
He also stepped outside the restaurant with Chey Tae-won and others to distribute various Korean snacks to the crowd, including SK Hynix's "Honey Banana Mat" potato chips, whose acronym HBM coincidentally matches High Bandwidth Memory.
Huang's daughter, Madison Huang, also attended the dinner but sat at a different table.
According to reports, the group planned to continue the evening at a nearby karaoke bar, experiencing a typical Korean corporate dinner culture. (Editor: Hung Pei-ying) 1150605
