Legislative Yuan President Han Kuo-yu attended the inaugural meeting of the "Taiwan Local Agricultural Products and Life Culture Exchange Association" initiated by Taiwan People's Party Legislator Tsai Chun-chou.
In his speech, Han said he was honored to participate in the inaugural meeting of the "Taiwan Local Agricultural Products and Life Culture Exchange Association" promoted by Tsai Chun-chou. He noted that farmers work hard on the land to support their families, and creating better farming conditions and environments is not only the responsibility of governments at all levels but also requires joint efforts from industry, government, and academia.
Han pointed out that it is regrettable that many young people return to their hometowns with ideals to farm but are forced to change careers due to unstable income. He stated that Taiwan's diverse geographical conditions allow for consideration of developing market-potential herbal medicine cultivation, in addition to fruit and vegetable production, to expand farmers' income sources.
Han said that Taiwan is surrounded by the sea, and its low food self-sufficiency rate is a serious issue, even related to national security. He called on all sectors of society to pay attention to agricultural development and farmers' rights. He expressed hope that through joint efforts, a more stable and sustainable farming environment can be gradually created. (Editor: Su Lung-chi) 1150605
