(CNA reporter Lin Qiaolian, Kaohsiung, 5th) Ruan General Hospital recently passed the greenhouse gas inventory verification. The hospital stated that it will continue to deepen carbon management and sustainable governance, balancing the quality of medical care with environmental responsibility to create a more patient-friendly environment.

Ruan General Hospital announced yesterday that it had passed the "ISO 14064-1:2018 Greenhouse Gas Inventory Verification." At the certification ceremony, it was noted that this achievement is an important milestone for the hospital in promoting environmental sustainability and net-zero transformation. Representatives from the verification body, Arsis International Certification Co., Ltd., were also present to witness the event.

Ruan General Hospital stated that it was founded in 1946 and has been providing local medical services in the Kaohsiung area for nearly 80 years. Facing global climate change and the trend towards net-zero emissions, medical institutions not only bear the responsibility of protecting public health but must also actively respond to environmental sustainability issues.

The hospital pointed out that medical institutions are high-energy-consumption facilities, with major carbon emission sources including air conditioning systems, lighting equipment, and electricity for medical instruments. Therefore, promoting greenhouse gas inventory is like conducting a health check-up for the hospital. By taking stock of energy use and carbon emission sources, it serves as an important basis for subsequent carbon reduction and sustainable governance.

The hospital stated that passing the ISO 14064-1:2018 greenhouse gas inventory verification not only signifies that the hospital's efforts in environmental management and sustainable development have received international standard recognition but also lays the foundation for future carbon reduction strategies and net-zero transformation. In July of this year, it will launch the "ISO 14067 Carbon Footprint Project" to further inventory carbon emission information throughout the lifecycle of medical services and deepen carbon management capabilities.

The hospital indicated that it will continue to move towards the goal of "balancing health care and environmental sustainability." Through institutionalized carbon management and carbon reduction strategies, it hopes not only to provide the public with high-quality medical services but also to create a more environmentally friendly and safe medical environment, becoming an important model for promoting sustainable medical development in the Kaohsiung area.
