(CNA, Taipei, June 5) Kuomintang (KMT) Chair Cheng Li-wen met with Massachusetts Lt. Governor Kim Driscoll on June 4. Cheng stated that in the face of the current international situation, cooperation should replace confrontation and war, and that Taiwan and the US should strengthen substantive cooperation to jointly play a key role in creating 'freedom and peace' in the world and across the Taiwan Strait.

The KMT's Department of Cultural and Communications issued a press release today stating that Cheng is leading a delegation to the US and met with Kim Driscoll on June 4, Taipei time.

Cheng stated that Boston was chosen as the first stop on the US East Coast visit because it has 'America's strongest brains.' Facing the current international situation, cooperation should replace confrontation and war, and both Taiwan and the US should continue to strengthen substantive cooperation in industry, economy, trade, and high technology, jointly playing a key leadership role in creating 'freedom and peace' in the world and across the Taiwan Strait.

Cheng pointed out that in the past, Taiwan and the US played a key leadership role for the democratic revolution. Facing the current international situation, both sides should continue to strengthen substantive cooperation in industry, economy, trade, and high technology. She cited the example of Taiwan's iconic tech company, E Ink, which has a deep presence in Massachusetts manufacturing e-reader screens, creating hundreds of local jobs, calling it a model of complementary advantages between Taiwanese and American companies.

Driscoll stated that Massachusetts and Taiwan share common goals in many areas. She noted that the state government recently made a significant investment in MIT's new Quantum Center, actively positioning for future technology. Facing political fluctuations and various uncertainties at the federal level in Washington, the challenges for local government work have intensified, but Massachusetts has always played the role of a 'resistance force' upholding democratic values, alliances, and sovereignty.

Driscoll pointed out that Massachusetts greatly values its close economic and academic ties with Taiwan and hopes to leverage mutual strengths to 'leverage development' and move forward together in the future. She highly affirmed Taiwan's achievements in democratic development and stated that Massachusetts has always been at the forefront of technology and academia, looking forward to further deepening bilateral ties in the future.
