Postal Outsourced Driver Killed in Miaoli; Suspect Detained

(Central News Agency reporter Guan Ruiping, Miaoli County, 5th) An outsourced driver surnamed Yang for Chunghwa Post was stabbed more than ten times and killed yesterday while loading mail at the Zhunan Post Office. The suspect, a man surnamed Liu who had long been dissatisfied with noise from the post office, was questioned by a prosecutor from the Miaoli District Prosecutors Office today. The prosecutor, believing Liu committed a serious homicide and poses a flight risk, has requested the court to detain him.

The homicide occurred at around 4:30 p.m. yesterday at the Zhunan Post Office, which is under the Miaoli Post Office of Chunghwa Post. A 36-year-old man surnamed Liu, who lives across from the Zhunan Post Office, allegedly dissatisfied with the loud noises from mail handling, used a kitchen knife to fatally stab the 61-year-old outsourced driver surnamed Yang, who was working. Liu was subsequently arrested by police as a flagrant offender and is being investigated on suspicion of murder.

Prosecutor Yang Yue-du of the Miaoli District Prosecutors Office, along with a forensic doctor and police, conducted an autopsy on the victim's body at the Toufen City Funeral Home today. They then went to the crime scene to inspect the route of the attack and criminal evidence.

The Miaoli District Prosecutors Office stated that after questioning the defendant Liu, the prosecutor determined he is suspected of violating Article 271 of the Criminal Code (murder), which carries a minimum sentence of over five years in prison. Citing a substantial reason to believe he may flee, the prosecutor has requested detention from the Miaoli District Court pursuant to Article 101, Paragraph 1, Subparagraph 3 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The prosecution indicated that after the incident, a protection and care mechanism was activated. This morning, specialized personnel from the Miaoli Branch of the Crime Victim Protection Association proactively contacted the victim's family, providing care during the autopsy process, legal consultation, psychological support, and relevant information to offer necessary assistance to the family.
