(Central News Agency, San Salvador, 4th, Combined Foreign Reports) Salvadoran prosecutors said today that some leaders of the powerful MS-13 gang could face sentences of tens of thousands of years in a mass trial based on a series of charges.

According to AFP, court documents show that El Salvador is trying more than 480 members of the criminal group MS-13, which has been designated a terrorist organization by the United States and El Salvador.

Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele declared "war" on gangs in 2022, and the aforementioned mass trial began in April of this year.

Prosecutor Max Munoz, who is in charge of combating organized crime, said in a statement: "The judge will impose sentences of thousands of years. These people will certainly not be able to leave the prison system."

One of the main defendants is Borromeo Henriquez, 47, who has already been sentenced to 87 years in prison for numerous murders and other crimes committed since 1998.

Munoz mentioned that Henriquez "could also face a sentence of 15,000 to 25,000 years." (Translation: Chen Yanjun) 1150605
