(Central News Agency, New York, 5th) Strong US jobs report data fueled market expectations that the Federal Reserve (Fed) might tighten monetary policy, causing major US stock indexes, the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq, to open lower on Wednesday. Chip stocks underwent a correction after a recent rally.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average opened up 48.1 points, or 0.09%, at 51,610.02.

The S&P 500 opened down 47.0 points, or 0.62%, at 7,537.36.
