(Central News Agency correspondent You Yao-ru, Vilnius, 5th) Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, held a series of events on the 4th to celebrate International Corgi Day, connecting corgi communities from around the world via video link for the first time. The event attracted dog lovers from various countries, and the atmosphere was lively. The event also served as a warm-up for the 5th 'Corgi Race' scheduled for August 15.

The activities began in the evening local time in the old town of Vilnius. The first event was the 'Short Leg Parade' starting from the landmark Gate of Dawn. Dozens of corgis and their owners walked along the streets, attracting many tourists who stopped to watch and take photos.

Subsequently, short-distance races and fun competitions were held at the Town Hall Square, including the 'Run Around' challenge where owners stood at opposite ends of the track to guide their dogs in a shuttle run, with winners determined by speed. There was also a 'Most Sensitive Nose' sniffing contest open to all dog breeds. The venue was filled with barks and laughter.

At 7 PM (Lithuanian time), the event reached its climax as corgi communities from various countries connected simultaneously via a video conferencing platform for a global exchange called 'World Corgi Zoom-ies.' The screen showed corgis from Asia, Europe, and the Americas appearing at the same time. Communities from different regions took turns giving brief introductions, sharing local events and dog-raising cultures.

Event initiator Edvinas Miškas stated that after declaring Vilnius the 'Corgi Capital of Europe' a year ago, he realized the need to realize the vision through concrete actions, not only by holding events in Lithuania but also by promoting exchanges among global communities, which led to this connection.

The organizers pointed out that this was the first time corgi communities from different continents interacted online simultaneously, hoping to promote international exchange. Despite challenges posed by time differences, with some regions having to participate late at night or early in the morning, representatives from over 30 communities from multiple countries joined in real-time.

Vilnius has been actively building its corgi event brand in recent years, with related races and gatherings gradually gaining international recognition. The organizers stated that if the 'World Corgi Zoom-ies' receives a good response, it may be developed into an annual event to continuously connect corgi enthusiasts worldwide.

Additionally, this event served as a warm-up for the 2026 'Corgi Race' scheduled for August 15, which is expected to be even larger, attracting hundreds of corgis and foreign owners to participate. (Editor: Chen Cheng-gong) 1150605
