The Taichung City Government announced today (June 5) that Mayor Lu Shiow-yen will depart on June 6 for a 10-day visit to three European countries to deepen substantive exchanges between Taichung and European sectors. Facing the impact of US reciprocal tariffs on global markets, the city government believes local governments should take the lead in going international to find new opportunities for Taiwanese industries.

According to a press release issued by the Taichung City Government today, Mayor Lu will lead a delegation to Germany, the Czech Republic, and Austria from June 6 to 15. The city government stated that these three countries have long shared common democratic beliefs with Taiwan. The delegation's visit will focus on three main themes: "meeting democratic allies," "visiting friendly cities," and "expanding international markets," aiming to deepen substantive exchanges between Taichung and various European sectors.

The city government noted that in the face of the impact of US reciprocal tariffs on global markets, local governments should not only assist in the stable development of industries but also take the lead in going international, expanding markets, and finding new opportunities for Taiwanese industries.

The city government explained that Germany, the Czech Republic, and Austria have strong industrial foundations in areas such as machine tools, precision machinery, semiconductor chips, and bicycles. Taichung, with its Golden Corridor of precision machinery and a complete industrial cluster, has long maintained close interactions with these three countries.

The European delegation is scheduled to visit seven cities and regions across Germany, Austria, and the Czech Republic: Berlin, Brandenburg, Saxony, Dresden, Prague, Baden, and Vienna.
