(Central News Agency, Taipei, June 5) Taiwan's 'Little Steel Cannon' Liang En-shuo, 25, and her Japanese partner Shuko Aoyama, 38, fell to the second-seeded pair of Anna Danilina (Kazakhstan) and Aleksandra Krunic (Serbia) in the women's doubles semifinals of the French Open on Thursday, ending their run for the championship.
The 'Short Stack Duo', standing at 158cm and 154cm respectively, were the only unseeded pair to reach the semifinals. They started the first set strong, breaking serve to take a 4-1 lead. However, they lost their serve twice, allowing their opponents to come back and win the set 7-5.
In the second set, their first-serve percentage dropped, and they were broken early. They had chances to break back but failed to convert four break points. They ultimately lost the set 2-6.
Liang became the fourth Taiwanese player, after Chan Yung-jan, Chan Hao-ching, and Hsieh Su-wei, to reach the women's doubles semifinals at Roland Garros. Although they missed out on the final, Liang achieved her best-ever Grand Slam result.
