(Central News Agency reporter Cao Yayan, New Taipei City, June 5) Police officers in New Taipei City's Xinzhuang District stopped an illegally parked vehicle late last night. Upon seeing the police, the driver immediately fled on foot. The officers pursued and subdued him using pepper spray. The driver was found to be unlicensed, and a subsequent rapid drug saliva test showed positive reactions for etomidate and amphetamines. The driver and a passenger were immediately arrested and sent for prosecution.

The Xinzhuang Precinct of the New Taipei City Police Department stated today that officers from the Fuying Police Station were on patrol late last night when they spotted a car illegally parked on a sidewalk and approached to investigate. Inside the vehicle were the 19-year-old driver, surnamed Xu, and a 25-year-old passenger, surnamed Huang.

According to police, during the questioning, Xu appeared agitated and suddenly fled on foot. Officers immediately pursued him on their patrol scooter, stopping him in the nearby Mingzhong Street area. Xu continued to resist arrest. To ensure their own safety and that of the surrounding public, the officers lawfully used a protective spray (pepper spray) and physical force to subdue and restrain him.

An investigation revealed that Xu did not possess a driver's license. A subsequent rapid drug saliva test showed positive results for etomidate and amphetamines, leading to his arrest on suspicion of drug-impaired driving. He was also issued citations for traffic violations and driving without a license under the Road Traffic Management and Penalty Act.

A further search of the vehicle uncovered three etomidate vape cartridges and one packet of ketamine. Both men were taken into custody for further investigation and were transferred to the New Taipei District Prosecutors Office on charges of public endangerment and violations of the Narcotics Hazard Prevention Act.
