SUV Collides with Electric Mobility Scooter in Yilan; Woman Dies

(CNA reporter Shen Jufeng, Yilan County, June 5) A woman surnamed Yeh was driving a passenger car on the morning of the 5th at the intersection of Nansan 3rd Road and Dongxi 5th Road in Jiaoxi Township, Yilan County, when she violently collided with an electric mobility scooter driven by a woman surnamed Chien. Ms. Chien was thrown from the scooter on impact and was pronounced dead after being taken to the hospital. The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation by the police. According to police investigation, Ms. Yeh's blood alcohol content was zero. However, because a young child in the car was not secured in a legally required child safety seat, police issued her a fine of between NT$1,500 and NT$3,000 under the Road Traffic Management and Penalty Act.
