Taiwan Stock Market Falls 606.52 Points

(Central News Agency, Taipei, 5th) The Taipei stock market opened low and continued to fall, closing down 606.52 points at 45,070.94, a decline of 1.33%, with a trading volume of NT$1.2294 trillion.

The TAIEX opened at 45,619.82, with an intraday high of 45,619.82 and a low of 44,209.53. The index excluding financial stocks closed at 40,693.25, down 616.52 points.

Changes in the eight major stock categories: Cement & Ceramics fell 0.57%, Food rose 0.13%, Plastics & Chemicals fell 2.26%, Textiles fell 1.28%, Machinery & Electronics fell 1.56%, Paper & Pulp fell 2.11%, Construction rose 0.89%, and Finance rose 0.79%.

Buy orders totaled 25,346,972 lots, sell orders 19,407,936 lots, and executed trades 15,569,077 lots.

At the close, 349 stocks rose, 683 fell, and 72 remained unchanged.

The top five stocks by trading volume were AUO, Active Unified Upgrade 50, Yuanta Taiwan 50 Positive 2, UMC, and Active Unified Taiwan Stock Growth.

The top five gainers were Jentech, Shin Zu Shing, Hocheng, Fubon Multimedia, and旭隼.
