Taiwan Stock Market Booms: Foreign Net Inflow Hits Record US$65.1 Billion in First Five Months

Statistics from the Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) show that the net inflow of foreign and mainland Chinese capital in May was US$20.877 billion, the largest for the same period on record. The cumulative net inflow from the beginning of the year to the end of May reached US$65.149 billion, also a record high for the same period.

The FSC today released the status of foreign and mainland Chinese investment in domestic securities. In May, foreign and mainland Chinese investors had a net purchase of listed and OTC stocks of NT$232.767 billion, the second-largest monthly net purchase since 2022 and the largest for the same period. As of the end of May this year, the cumulative net sale amount was NT$264.965 billion, the third-largest net sale amount for the same period since 2022.

The FSC pointed out that the net inflow of US$20.877 billion in May and the cumulative net inflow of US$65.149 billion in the first five months of this year are both the largest net inflow scales for the same period on record.

The Taiwan stock market fell 606.52 points today. The FSC explained that based on the fundamentals of the Taiwan stock market, the P/E ratio as of the end of April this year was approximately 29.25 times, the cash dividend yield was 1.84%, and the cumulative revenue of domestic listed and OTC companies as of the end of April this year was approximately NT$19.404 trillion, a 31% increase compared to the same period last year.

Comparing the performance of the Taiwan stock market with other Asian stock markets, the FSC stated that the Taiwan stock market closed at 45,070.94 points today, down 606.52 points or 1.33%, with a trading volume of approximately NT$1.2294 trillion. As of 1:30 PM today, compared to the situation in major Asian stock markets at the same time, South Korea fell 4.1%, Japan fell 1.1%, Hong Kong fell 1.01%, Singapore fell 0.21%, and Shanghai fell 0.13%.
