(CNA, Cao Yayan, New Taipei, June 5) Liu Qiao-an, wanted for drug-related offenses, was transferred to the Taiwan New Taipei District Prosecutors Office for further questioning on the afternoon of June 5. After questioning, prosecutors determined that Liu is strongly suspected of violating the Narcotics Hazard Prevention Act by trafficking first-degree drugs, a crime punishable by a minimum of five years imprisonment. Citing a high risk of flight and collusion with accomplices or witnesses, the prosecutors have applied to the Taiwan New Taipei District Court for a detention order.
Liu, knowing she would be wanted for an embezzlement case in 2019, skipped bail and fled to the United States. During her time in the US, she continued to be involved in several drug cases and was subsequently wanted. A special task force from the Criminal Investigation Bureau of the National Police Agency maintained cooperation with US authorities. Liu was arrested by US authorities in Boston on January 22 of last year and was extradited back to Taiwan yesterday (June 4).
After being questioned by the Criminal Investigation Bureau, Liu was transferred to the New Taipei District Prosecutors Office in the afternoon. The prosecutors' office stated in the evening that, based on the investigation, Liu is strongly suspected of trafficking first-degree drugs, a major felony with a minimum sentence of five years. Due to the risk of flight and collusion, they have requested the New Taipei District Court to detain her.
According to sources, the case involves an incident in October 2021 (the 110th year of the Republic of China) when Liu, while in the US, concealed 590 grams of first-degree narcotics (cocaine) in a package mixed with candles, clothes, and chocolate. She then used a US courier service to air-ship the drug package to Taiwan. (Editor: Li Mingzong) June 5, 2026
