(Central News Agency, reporter Su Muchun, Taichung, 5th) After two consecutive days of signal failures causing delays on the Taichung Metro, Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) mayoral candidate Ho Hsin-chun stated today that systematic inspections and contingency plans should be implemented. Taichung Metro Co., Ltd. said it has established a fault log and strengthened its emergency response mechanisms to strive for system stability and safety.
Speaking to the media after an event, Ho said the issue cannot be treated as an isolated case. "The safety of the Taichung Metro cannot be taken lightly. This is a matter of public trust in the metro system." She urged the Taichung City Government to proactively conduct systematic inspections to identify the root causes and determine solutions.
She added, "What the citizens want is not an apology or a refund. When a fault occurs or service is suspended, information must be clearly disclosed and contingency measures arranged. Passengers need to know immediately about alternative transportation or evacuation routes. This is a serious issue the city government must face."
In a press release issued today, Taichung Metro Co. stated that whenever an abnormal event occurs, emergency response and immediate handling are initiated. A technical meeting is held weekly to review and optimize procedures, and a fault log for equipment has been established. In response to the recent spate of abnormal events, the company has immediately sought expert assistance and requested the original manufacturer's regional service director to come to Taiwan as soon as possible to clarify the cause and discuss subsequent spare parts procurement, aiming to ensure system stability and operational safety.
During repairs, the company disseminated information via broadcasts and electronic message boards on trains and at stations, as well as on the Taichung Metro app, official website, and Facebook fan page. It provided estimated restoration times and arranged staff to guide passengers, aiming to minimize the impact on travelers.
An abnormal condition occurred with a Smart Input/Output (SMIO) card at the Taichung Metro's Beitun Depot on the 3rd. On the 4th, another signal abnormality caused a 42-minute delay for all trains on the line. (Editor: Li Mingzong) 1150605
