(Central News Agency, Taipei, June 5) The 'Writers' Reading Month', a major literary event in Central Europe, will commence on the 6th. The 'Taiwan Guest of Honor' program will take place in Wrocław and Cieszyn, Poland, inviting 16 Taiwanese writers to engage in dialogue with writers from other countries through literature.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Culture, writers including Ping Lu, Xiang Yang, Li Ang, Li Tong-hao, Liglav A-wu, Hong Ming-dao, Hsu Chen-fu, Kao Yi-feng, Tsao Yu-po, Lien Ming-wei, Chen You-jin, Tung Wei-keh, Huang Chong-kai, Liao Hong-ji, Liu Zi-jie, and Hung Hung will conduct nearly 64 readings and seminars during the event.

Minister of Culture Li Yuan, in a recent interview with Polish media, stated, 'Technology and semiconductors are Taiwan's body, but culture is our soul.' He expressed hope that this event would encourage more Taiwanese writers to go international, as literature is not only a vital carrier of culture but also an important window for the world to see Taiwan.

The press release noted that the 'Writers' Reading Month' has been held for over 20 years and is the most representative literary event in Central Europe. In 2024, coinciding with its 25th anniversary, Taiwan was invited as the guest of honor for the first time. At that time, 31 Taiwanese writers toured the Czech Republic and Slovakia for readings and seminars, receiving an enthusiastic response. Taiwan became the first Asian country to be invited, with nearly 20,000 readers attending the events. (Editor: Lung Po-an) 1150605
