The Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics (DGBAS) announced today that the annual Consumer Price Index (CPI) growth rate for May was 2.2%, expanding from 1.74% in April and breaking through the 2% inflation alert threshold. Among the components, fuel costs saw a significant surge of 20.09%. Looking at the seven major categories of the CPI, transportation and communication rose by 4%, the most significant increase, with fuel costs, train tickets, and airfares all rising. After excluding vegetables, fruits, and energy, the core CPI increased by 2.12% year-on-year, higher than the 1.90% in April.
