Czech Senate President Visits Taiwan's NSTC Minister, Aims to Deepen Research Cooperation and Supply Chain Resilience

Czech Senate President Miloš Vystrčil led a delegation to Taiwan and met with National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) Minister Wu Cheng-wen today (June 3) to exchange views on Taiwan-Czech research outcomes and future cooperation. Vystrčil emphasized that Taiwan and the Czech Republic are close partners sharing values of freedom and democracy, and will continue to expand cooperation on this solid foundation to jointly build a resilient international democratic supply chain.

The NSTC issued a press release stating that Vystrčil led a delegation to visit Wu today. Both sides highly affirmed the cooperation results between the two countries in the semiconductor field and emphasized that the operation of the "Advanced Chip Design Research Center" and the "Chip Innovation Program Prague Office" have provided the best examples of cooperation for exchanges between research institutions and industries in both countries.

Wu stated that Taiwan has been actively deepening science and technology partnerships with like-minded countries in recent years. Over the past few years, Taiwan and the Czech Republic have established mechanisms for R&D and talent cultivation in the semiconductor field, and will continue to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation in the future.

In addition to affirming the diverse cooperation in fields such as science and technology, economy, trade, and culture, Vystrčil emphasized that Taiwan and the Czech Republic are close partners sharing values of freedom and democracy. He said they will continue to expand cooperation on this solid foundation to jointly build a resilient international democratic supply chain.

The NSTC stated that it established a Science and Technology Division in Prague, Czech Republic in 2006. Since 2007, the "Taiwan-Czech Science and Technology Day" has been held alternately in Taiwan and the Czech Republic, becoming an important platform for promoting science and technology exchanges and cooperation between the two countries.

The NSTC pointed out that since 2010, the two sides have jointly funded over 100 projects, resulting in considerable cooperation in the field of science and technology. The NSTC has signed scientific research cooperation agreements or memoranda of understanding with the Czech Science Foundation (GACR), the Czech Technology Agency (TACR), and the Czech Academy of Sciences (CAS) to jointly promote bilateral research projects and personnel exchanges.

The NSTC stated that in terms of building a semiconductor industry ecosystem, the NSTC and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the "Advanced Chip Design Research Center," are assisting the Czech Republic in establishing a semiconductor industry ecosystem and actively promoting the overseas布局 of Taiwan's semiconductor industry. In terms of linking European semiconductor talent cultivation and cooperation, the NSTC, through the "Chip Innovation Program Prague Office," continues to conduct academic research and talent exchanges with the Czech Republic focused on cutting-edge and basic research.
