(Central News Agency reporter Lin Chiao-lien, Kaohsiung, June 3) The National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying) is holding a two-day showcase on June 3 and 4 for its 'Theater Arts Experience Education Program.' Students from eight schools in Kaohsiung and Pingtung used their voices, bodies, and creative works to respond to social issues, demonstrating the growth and confidence fostered by arts education.

According to Weiwuying, since its launch in 2019, the program has received applications from schools in Chiayi County, Tainan City, Kaohsiung City, and Pingtung County. A total of 53 elementary schools, 42 junior high schools, and 45 senior/vocational high schools have participated, involving 220 classes and over 6,600 students. The program brings professional theater artists into schools, allowing students to learn expression, critical thinking, and teamwork through performance.

During the showcase, students presented their creativity and perspectives on various themes. In the elementary school session, Gangshan Elementary School used scripts to discuss dreams and future directions; Xinjia Elementary School combined Theatre-in-Education (T.I.E) with projection design to transform emotions into poetry and stage performance; Fucheng Elementary School used black humor scripts rooted in local experiences to showcase childlike wonder and creativity.

Junior and senior high school students delved deeper into social issues. Wufu Junior High School performed classic texts in English; Wenfu and Lingya Junior High Schools led students in exploring women's situations, emotions, and the issue of homelessness; Mingzheng Junior High School used the imagery of the 'Ringed Plover' to contemplate life choices and courage; and Shude Vocational High School students used song and dance to explore live-streaming culture and online trolling.

Weiwuying stated that the dramatic reading materials were primarily selected from the script collections 'Distinctive Times,' 'Animal Times,' and 'Refining Love Times,' produced by the 'Literary Script Adaptation Workshop,' and also included world classics such as 'The Little Prince.' The aim is to use drama to help students focus on life issues such as women's value, the relationship between humans and nature, and love and emotion, further cultivating their ability to observe society and express their views.

Applications for Weiwuying's 'Theater Arts Experience Education Program' for the 2026 academic year are open to schools in the Kaohsiung and Pingtung areas from today until July 17. (Editor: Lee Hsiang-shan) 1150603
