Shen Po-yang Visits COMPUTEX, Hopes to Make Taipei a City for Investment and Talent Retention

(Central News Agency, reporter Liu Jianbang, Taipei, 3rd) Shen Po-yang, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) candidate for Taipei mayor, visited the Taipei International Computer Show (COMPUTEX) today, expressing his hope to make Taipei a city suitable for investment and capable of retaining talent, with a particular focus on the future development of the Beitou-Shilin Technology Park (Beishike). He stated that all constructive discussions are a blessing for the citizens.

The 2026 COMPUTEX's flagship Asian startup exhibition, InnoVEX, is being held from the 2nd to the 5th at Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center Hall 2. Shen Po-yang, along with DPP Legislator Wu Szu-yao, visited the exhibition today. The two gave a joint interview before the event.

When asked by the media about the reason for the visit, Shen said he had previously proposed the concept of an AI city. He noted that Taiwan needs various types of international companies to bring diverse technologies for collaboration. His main reason for visiting the exhibition was to make Taipei a city where foreign businesses can establish a presence and talent can be retained.

Asked about the possibility of an unplanned meeting with NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, Shen stated that AI and cybersecurity are already part of his expertise. He said he did not visit the exhibition hoping for a chance encounter with anyone. He emphasized that his primary focus is on the future development of the Beitou-Shilin Technology Park. If elected, his goal would be to transform Taipei into a city suitable for investment and talent retention, especially concerning the Beitou-Shilin Tech Park.

Furthermore, when asked by the media about the New Taipei City mayoral candidate Lee Sze-chuan's renewed proposal to build the Lushe Bridge after being elected, Shen responded that Taipei and New Taipei City have many opportunities for cooperation. He expressed regret, saying, "If something that could be done by Taipei City itself requires waiting for New Taipei City to act, I would find that very regrettable."

Shen continued, mentioning that while some say the optimization of the Taipei Metro Wenshan-Neihu Line must wait until 2036 and will be solved with AI, he believes that engineering issues unrelated to AI, such as installing a substation, could be resolved by 2026, without waiting until 2036.

When asked if he felt a sense of competition with Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an's recent cooperation with NVIDIA, Shen said, "Any constructive discussion is a blessing for Taipei citizens." He added that if the opposing camp thinks his policies, such as establishing talent clusters and retaining talent, are good and decides to implement them, it would be beneficial for Taipei citizens, and he sees nothing wrong with that.

Regarding how he handles online rumors, Shen stated, "I believe citizens are tired of negative attacks and labels." He argued that by proposing policies like improving market traffic flow and revitalizing commercial districts, citizens will no longer care about his personal leisure activities, which he believes are not issues citizens should be concerned about.

Asked whether he thinks Mayor Chiang is unfamiliar with city governance, given criticism that Chiang needs a tablet to understand municipal affairs, Shen said it is common for politicians to use tablets to access information, just as some people bring notes to the podium.

Shen continued, saying the key point should be the depth of the response. "If you understand city governance well enough, even if you can't remember some details, you should still be able to answer questions like, 'What is the future direction?
