(Central News Agency, New Taipei, 3rd) Former Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) New Taipei City Councilor Huang Jun-Zhe is suspected of fraudulently obtaining subsidies, embezzling public funds, and accepting bribes, with illegal gains totaling over NT$7 million. The New Taipei District Prosecutors Office launched a search yesterday, bringing in 7 individuals. After questioning, prosecutors requested and obtained detention orders for Huang, his office director, and an assistant.

During the 2022 nine-in-one local elections, Huang's father, Huang Zhong-Xin, and his office director, surnamed Tang, gave shark-fin hotpot gift boxes to voters to aid Huang's re-election campaign, constituting vote-buying. In 2024, Huang's election victory was ruled invalid.

Prosecutor Wu Jia-Qian of the New Taipei District Prosecutors Office, investigating Huang's corruption case, yesterday led the Agency Against Corruption in a search of 18 locations and arrested Huang and six others. Investigations revealed that Huang, along with his office director Tang and assistant Hu, jointly defrauded the New Taipei City Government of approximately NT$200,000 in subsidies and embezzled about NT$3 million in public funds. Huang is also suspected of accepting bribes of over NT$4 million. The three are charged with aggravated fraud, forgery, embezzlement of public funds, money laundering, and accepting bribes under the Anti-Corruption Act.

After questioning, the prosecutor deemed Huang a high flight risk and likely to destroy evidence or collude with accomplices or witnesses, given the charges carry a minimum sentence of five years. Tang and Hu were also deemed risks. The court approved the detention request today. Separately, a defendant surnamed Zeng, accused of offering bribes, was released on bail of NT$1 million. Others were released on bail of NT$20,000, placed under residential restrictions, or released without charge. (Editor: Zhang Ya-Jing) 1150603
