Compal Accelerates Server Push, Targets 50% Non-PC Revenue by 2027

Compal Electronics President Anthony Peter Bonadero stated on June 3 that the company, a latecomer to the AI server market, is aggressively catching up. Its goal is to double server revenue share from 5% in Q1 to 10% by year-end, and achieve a 50-50 split between PC and non-PC revenue by 2027. To support this, Compal is expanding factories in Texas, Taiwan's Taoyuan, and Vietnam, and has grown its engineering team to 1,000 people.

(Central News Agency, reporter Wu Jiahao, Taipei, June 3) Compal Electronics President Anthony Peter Bonadero said today that the company got a late start in the AI server market and has some catching up to do, but noted that "being late also has some advantages." He stated the company is currently focused on core customer needs. Server revenue accounted for about 5% of total revenue in the first quarter, with a target to double that to 10% by the end of the year, and to achieve a 50-50 split between PC and non-PC revenue by 2027.

Speaking to media at Compal's booth at the COMPUTEX trade show in Taipei, Bonadero emphasized that Compal is "not just a PC company" and is actively advancing its AI server and infrastructure business. In the first quarter of this year, PC business revenue accounted for 65%, while non-PC businesses, including servers, communications, and medical, accounted for 35%.

He said that while Compal's previous non-PC revenue target was 40%, with the average selling price (ASP) of infrastructure and server products rising and scale accelerating, the company now has a clear roadmap to raise the non-PC revenue share to 50% by 2027, fundamentally transforming its image as a pure PC OEM.

Regarding capacity expansion, Bonadero revealed that Compal's new factory in Texas, USA, is ahead of schedule and will be ready within the next 45 days. Customer validation is expected to be completed in the second half of this year, at which point the factory will begin L10 (system assembly) and L11 (complete server system) server operations. Additionally, a new factory in Daxi, Taoyuan, Taiwan, has been announced, and the Vietnam factory will primarily handle board manufacturing.

Bonadero explained that Texas was chosen not only for its proximity to North American customers but also because it has a very large independent power grid in the US and abundant renewable energy sources like wind power, ensuring a stable power supply for factory operations from day one.

As the server business grows, Compal continues to expand its technical team. Bonadero revealed that the engineering team has grown from just 600 people 18 months ago to 1,000 people today. He emphasized that this is not just a simple increase in headcount but a result of team adjustments and "blood transfusion optimization," bringing in top talent in electronics, mechanics, and liquid cooling to form an elite team capable of delivering rack-level solutions for hyperscale customers. The company plans to continue expanding its investment in talent. (Editor: Pan Yijing) 1150603
