Jensen Huang: NVIDIA is the Largest Buyer in Taiwan's Ecosystem, Balancing Supply Chain Resilience

NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang said today that the most direct way to invest in Taiwan is to 'spend money,' and NVIDIA is now the 'largest buyer' in Taiwan's ecosystem, which also allows the supply chain to remain resilient. NVIDIA currently has over 1,000 employees in Taiwan, and with the expansion of its new headquarters, it will need to recruit thousands more in the next few years, becoming one of the largest employers in Taiwan. Huang held a GTC Taipei global media Q&A session this morning, where he was asked whether he is investing in Taiwan's future and how confident he is that Taiwan can maintain sufficient security to allow him to continue deepening his commitment to the island. Huang said that supply chains should be as diversified as possible and possess redundant capabilities to have resilience. This is why Taiwan is an incredible strategic partner for the United States, as Taiwan is investing in the U.S. manufacturing ecosystem. He specifically named Taiwanese companies such as TSMC, ASE, Wistron, and Foxconn, all of which are making huge investments in the U.S. with the goal of making the global supply chain as diversified, resilient, and redundant as possible. 'This is incredible; the contributions made by Taiwanese companies investing in the U.S. are amazing.' However, Huang emphasized that this does not change the fact that 'Taiwan is excellent at manufacturing,' especially in tech manufacturing. 'This is the epicenter of the ecosystem, the starting point for it all.' When asked about specific plans for NVIDIA's investment in Taiwan, Huang bluntly stated that the simplest and most direct way is to 'spend money' by purchasing output from them. 'We are currently the largest purchaser in Taiwan's ecosystem,' while also investing in local talent. He said that NVIDIA currently has over 1,000 employees in Taiwan and is building a facility that can accommodate 4,000 people. In the next few years, it will need to recruit thousands more, and NVIDIA will become one of the largest employers in Taiwan. He emphasized that NVIDIA can do two things at once: continue to invest in the professional talent Taiwan possesses while keeping NVIDIA's own supply chain as resilient as possible. 'You should always work with the best people in the world while always maintaining diversity.' Regarding the strategy for the Chinese market, Huang said that the U.S. government has authorized NVIDIA chips to be sold to China, and when NVIDIA tries to serve the Chinese market, it will do its best. It is a huge market and a very important one.
