Uni-Lions Manager Lin Yueh-ping Proposes Transfer Fees for Foreign Players

The CPBL team managers' meeting has decided to abolish the '228 foreign player rule.' Uni-Lions manager Lin Yueh-ping believes the move is insignificant and suggests that a 'transfer fee' system should be implemented instead. He stated that the Lions have a 'unique perspective' on scouting foreign pitchers, and the most important factor is finding players who can quickly integrate into the team. The CPBL meeting yesterday decided to scrap the 228 rule and set January 15 as the final negotiation deadline between foreign players and their original teams. Lin noted that the 228 rule was merely a formality with no real deterrent effect, only delaying signings. He argued that it would be better to allow contact after the season ends and implement a transfer fee system, or extend the deadline until after the season begins.
