Qi Hong, Chongqing Slogan Protester, Harassed by Pro-CCP Interpreter

According to a report by The Guardian, Qi Hong, the main figure in the Chongqing anti-CCP slogan incident, stated that while seeking help from the police in the UK, he was scolded by a pro-regime interpreter who asked questions like 'Why don't you love China?' On the eve of the CCP's September 3rd military parade last year, Qi Hong projected 'Down with the CCP' slogans on the exterior wall of a building in Chongqing University City for over 50 minutes, sparking heated discussion at home and abroad. Before the projection, Qi Hong had already taken his wife and two children to the UK and completed the projection via remote operation. The Guardian reported on May 30 that after Qi Hong discovered his bank account had been frozen last year, he sought help from the police. Qi Hong stated that instead of receiving advice from the police, the interpreter responsible for translation repeatedly made political remarks to him, such as asking, 'Why don't you love China?' At the time, Qi Hong's family was staying in Exeter, UK. During a 20-minute call, he explained that Chinese authorities had frozen his bank account, leaving him unable to pay for accommodation for himself, his wife, and his children. According to Qi Hong, the interpreter, who had a mainland Chinese accent, interrupted him during the call and questioned him. The interpreter allegedly asked, 'China is so good, why did you run out?' and 'Are you here to apply for political asylum? You brought your children out to suffer.' When Qi Hong tried to express his desperation, he said the interpreter refused to convey his statements to the police officers on the call. According to Qi Hong, the interpreter said, 'I will not translate your emotions,' 'Why should the UK help you?' and 'As long as you have money, it's convenient everywhere.' 22 days after Qi Hong filed a complaint, UK police informed him that the interpreter was not directly managed by the police but was hired by a contractor responsible for providing translation services with an annual fee of £130,000. The contractor did not respond to requests for comment. Furthermore, despite Qi Hong's repeated requests, the police have yet to provide him with a copy of the call recording. The UK's Information Commissioner's Office has noted the police's violation of relevant regulations and issued a formal reprimand. The report stated that Qi Hong's allegations further deepened concerns that the Chinese interpreter community might be widely infiltrated by the CCP's United Front system. The report also mentioned that a report funded by the UK Home Office, declassified in February this year, pointed out that the lack of Chinese language skills in the UK police has become a risk, allowing the CCP and organized crime groups to attempt to infiltrate the interpreter community.
