China Enters Flood Season: Officials Warn of Severe and Complex Situation in 2026

China's Ministry of Water Resources announced today that the country has officially entered the flood season. Southern regions have entered the main flood season, with rainfall in June expected to be 10-20% higher than average. Major rivers in the Dongting Lake and Poyang Lake systems, as well as the Pearl River, Qiantang River, and Min River basins, may experience floods exceeding warning levels. The ministry stated that the flood control situation is severe and complex. Goals include preventing casualties, dam failures, and levee breaches. In May, heavy rains in regions like Chongqing and Hunan resulted in at least 20 deaths.
