Central News Agency (Bangkok, May 31) June is Pride Month for the LGBTQ+ community, and the Bangkok Pride Parade took place on the streets this afternoon. Despite heavy rain starting at noon, the enthusiasm of the public remained undiminished, with tens of thousands waving rainbow flags and dressed in elaborate costumes to support gender equality. This year's theme was 'Patch the World with Pride.' The parade route spanned approximately 3.8 kilometers, passing through Chulalongkorn University, the Siam shopping district, and Silom Road, ending at the National Stadium. Although many sections of the road were flooded due to the downpour, more participants joined as the rain eased in the evening. The atmosphere was vibrant, accompanied by loud music and cheers. LGBTQ+ communities from across Thailand and abroad, corporate groups, and diplomats participated. A Chinese tourist named Pure said this was her third time attending, noting that the turnout was larger than in previous years. Jordi Andreu Clofent, a tourist from London, felt lucky to encounter the parade, praising the city's inclusive atmosphere. Thailand's same-sex marriage law will take effect in 2025, making it the first country in Southeast Asia to recognize same-sex marriage. Organizer Waaddao Chumaporn stated that they expect over 350,000 participants this year.
