Man Arrested for Installing Hidden Cameras in University Women's Restroom

Regarding the installation of hidden cameras in a women's restroom at the National Taipei University of Education, police arrested the 63-year-old suspect, surnamed Zuo, in Tamsui District, New Taipei City, and referred him to the Taipei District Prosecutors Office on charges of obstructing privacy. After questioning yesterday, the prosecutor requested detention and a ban on visits, which the Taipei District Court approved late last night. The Daan Precinct of the Taipei City Police Department received a report from the National Taipei University of Education around 6:00 PM on the 28th, stating that a suspected recording device had been found in a restroom on campus. Police were dispatched to the scene to conduct tests and began evidence collection and investigation. The police task force analyzed a large number of surveillance camera images and found that a man wearing a hat and mask before the incident was likely involved. Further investigation revealed that this person was 63-year-old Zuo, who lives in Tamsui and is not affiliated with the university. On the 29th, the police requested instructions from the Taipei District Prosecutors Office, detained Zuo at his home in Tamsui, executed a search, and seized computers, mobile phones, memory cards, and other items. He was referred to the Taipei District Prosecutors Office on the afternoon of the 30th on charges of obstructing privacy. After questioning, the prosecutor believed that Zuo was suspected of violating the Criminal Code regarding obstruction of privacy and sexual privacy, that the crime was serious, and that there was a risk of evidence destruction. Therefore, the prosecutor requested detention and a ban on visits from the Taipei District Court on the evening of the 30th. After deliberation, the Taipei District Court ordered detention and a ban on visits at approximately 11:40 PM on the 30th.
