The semi-annual adjustment by index provider MSCI took effect at the close of trading today, with Taiwan's weighting in the MSCI World Index, MSCI Emerging Markets Index, and MSCI AC Asia ex Japan Index all increased. Taiwan stocks opened higher and continued to climb, closing at a record high of 44,732.94 points, up 1,096.5 points. The turnover reached a record NT$1.81645 trillion. TSMC saw the largest increase in weighting, rising 0.56 percentage points to 58.33%. TSMC's share price hit a record high of NT$2,375 during the session, closing at NT$2,355, up NT$60, contributing approximately 477 points to the index. The stock king, Aspeed, also hit a record high of NT$19,510 during the session, closing at NT$18,950, up NT$1,115. Major electronics stocks such as Foxconn, Quanta, and Wistron hit the daily limit, pushing the electronics sector index up 2.62%. Traditional industry stocks also rose, with the plastics sector index up 7.23% and the cable sector index up 5.64%.
