Strong afternoon convection; heavy rain alert for Pingtung and Kaohsiung mountains

The Central Weather Administration has issued a heavy rain alert. Due to strong development of afternoon convective cloud systems, short-duration heavy rainfall is likely. Today, Pingtung County and the mountainous areas of Kaohsiung City may experience localized heavy rain or torrential rain. There is also a chance of localized heavy rain in the mountainous areas of Nantou, Yunlin, Chiayi, Hualien, and Taitung. The weather bureau reminds the public to be aware of lightning and strong gusts, and to be cautious of landslides, falling rocks, and rising river levels in mountainous areas. Low-lying areas should also be alert for potential flooding.
