US-China Tariff Talks Progress; Ministry of Commerce Confirms Continued Communication

Regarding the progress of US-China tariff negotiations, He Yadong, spokesperson for China's Ministry of Commerce, stated today that the economic and trade teams of both sides will maintain close communication to finalize specific arrangements. The US recently proposed evaluating tariff reductions on $30 billion worth of Chinese goods. According to Xinhua News Agency, He responded to questions about the progress of tariff negotiations at a regular press conference on the 28th, stating that tariffs have always been a key issue in US-China economic and trade relations. Under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, the teams have engaged in in-depth communication regarding tariff issues and made arrangements for bilateral tariffs. He said, 'We hope the US side will honor its commitments and create positive conditions for expanding economic and trade cooperation.' Meanwhile, both sides have agreed in principle to discuss a reciprocal tax reduction framework for products of equal scale under the Trade Council, with each side's scale being $30 billion or more. The teams will maintain close communication to finalize arrangements and push for implementation as soon as possible. According to foreign media reports, US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer stated on the 26th (US Eastern Time) that Washington and Beijing have agreed to establish a 'Board of Trade' to initially evaluate which tariffs can be reduced or eliminated for approximately $30 billion in non-strategic goods. The US government will consult the public on which Chinese goods may be eligible for lower tariffs.
