2026 Golden Short Film Contest Opens; Actress Hsiao-Hsun Encourages Creators to Apply

The 2026 Taipei International Golden Short Film Contest began accepting submissions today, with the deadline set for July 27. The total prize money reaches NT$1.13 million. Hsiao-Hsun, who won Best Actress last year, urged creators to participate actively and bravely explore new things in life, stating, "You only know after you've done it."

Hsiao-Hsun (Huang Ching-yi) stated through the organizers today that the bravest thing she ever did was signing up for the "Guess Guess Guess" indigenous beauty pageant. "That's how I got into the show 'Blackie's Teenage Club' and stepped into the entertainment industry." Although there were times she wasn't favored, she had aspired to be an actress since she was a child. "Even if there was only a one-in-a-thousand chance of becoming an actress, I didn't want to let it go. If it weren't for that decision back then, I wouldn't be who I am today."

Last year's Best Actor winner, Huang Yuan, said that in his private life, whenever he sees good weather, he immediately packs his gear and heads to the mountains. "That strong sense of execution makes me feel that I am truly alive, and this energy feeds back into my acting work." Huang Yuan used this to encourage creators to sign up, telling them not to fear that their work isn't perfect, because starting is far more important than being perfect.
