President: Comprehensive promotion of growth allowance for ages 0-18, 5,000 TWD per person per month

CNA, Taipei, May 27. To address the challenges of declining birth rates, the government announced a new population strategy today. President Lai Ching-te stated at a press conference that a comprehensive growth allowance for children aged 0-18 will be promoted, with each child receiving 5,000 TWD per month. From age 0 to 6, the 5,000 TWD can be used freely by the family. From age 6 to 18, 2,500 TWD will be provided to the family to reduce their burden, while the other 2,500 TWD will be deposited into a "Child and Youth Growth Allowance Account." The government will entrust professional financial teams to manage and invest these funds, guaranteeing at least a 2-year fixed deposit interest rate. When the child turns 18, they can withdraw the funds, which serves as a coming-of-age gift from the nation. President Lai pointed out that the fruits of economic growth should not only be shared by all citizens but also shared across generations. Investing in children is investing in three generations, and he hopes that national support will not only appear at the moment of birth but will accompany the child as they grow into adulthood. When the child reaches adulthood, this fund will be an important support for the next stage of their life.
