President Lai Ching-te, along with his administration, announced the 'New Strategy for Taiwan's Demographic Policy' today, comprising 18 measures across five dimensions. A monthly growth allowance of NT$5,000 will be provided. For children aged 0 to under 6, the full amount is for family use; for those aged 6 to 18, half is for family use, while the other half is deposited into a dedicated account, ensuring a minimum 'coming-of-age gift' of NT$360,000 at age 18. The policy requires an additional NT$205 billion annually, with a total injection of NT$380 billion. The strategy focuses on childbirth support, childcare, education, workplace friendliness, and housing relief. It also expands IVF subsidies and provides tax incentives for corporate childcare facilities. Student loan interest rates will be reduced, and repayment periods extended.
