〈Course Purpose〉
In Japan, since the commercialization of lithium-ion batteries for portable devices ahead of the world in the 1990s, we have led the global battery industry by promoting the commercialization of hybrid vehicles, electric vehicles, and stationary storage batteries. However, over the past decade, our market share has significantly decreased amidst mass production and cost reduction competition with Korean and Chinese manufacturers, and there are almost no new battery factories operating domestically. Recently, the importance of self-sufficiency in storage batteries, similar to semiconductors, has been recognized, and public support from the government has begun. However, there is an extreme shortage of battery engineers with practical experience in battery factories.
Therefore, STL JAPAN has decided to open a battery engineer training course by making its large-scale battery prototype factory in Tsuyama City, Okayama Prefecture, whose operating rights were acquired last June, available for one week each month. With the cooperation of OBs who have supported Japan's battery industry, we have created a program that allows participants to learn the basics of battery manufacturing technology at a factory level and gain actual experience over a one-week period.
