Clarivate Announces New Metric "Clarivate AI50" to Select 50 Organizations Driving Innovation in the AI Field

March 26, 2026, London (UK) — Clarivate Plc (NYSE:CLVT), a global leader in providing innovative intelligence, today announced the release of "Clarivate AI50," which selects 50 organizations demonstrating exceptional inventive power and leadership in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

This report follows the announcement of "Top 100 Global Innovators 2026" and is the first of its kind. It deeply analyzes how AI innovation is driven, from the creation of foundational AI technologies, to their implementation in complex systems, and their deployment into products, business processes, and industrial environments. Notably, more than half of the organizations selected for AI50 are also listed among the 2026 Top 100 Global Innovators.

The organizations selected for AI50 are concentrated in specific countries, regions, and major industrial sectors.

Approximately 80% are headquartered in four countries/regions: Mainland China (15 organizations), the United States (14 organizations), South Korea (6 organizations), and Japan (6 organizations). Government and academic research institutions also represent a significant proportion, followed by companies in sectors such as software & media, electronics & computing, and semiconductors.

These hubs, driven by mechanisms for continuous talent development and supply, supplier ecosystems, and cross-border collaborations, are regions and fields where innovation acceleration and rapid implementation are fostered.

The analysis for AI50 was conducted by the Clarivate Center for IP and Innovation Research.

The analysis employed a rigorous methodology based on the Derwent World Patents Index (DWPI), utilizing the Derwent Strength Index to measure invention impact, success, rarity, and geographic investment.

  Alphabet, Huawei, IBM, Microsoft, NVIDIA, Tencent, and major Chinese universities are leading core AI technology development through groundbreaking patent inventions in model architecture, hardware, and platform technology.

• Specialized AI Innovation in Specific Domains

  Organizations such as Accenture, Alibaba, ByteDance, ETRI, KAIST, KLA, and Tata Consultancy Services are developing highly specialized AI technologies in specific application domains and deploying them into practical, high-value applications.

• High Level of International and Academic Collaboration

  Approximately 10% of inventions included in AI50 are from joint research with academic institutions (7% global average), and about 20% involve international inventor teams (7% global average).
