Here we go! New School Year!! The New God of Fire Descends ~A Seasonal Tradition of Outdoor Activities in Toyohashi City~

Many people who grew up in Toyohashi may remember the "God of Fire" from outdoor activities during school trips in elementary and junior high school, right? In outdoor activities in Toyohashi City, representatives such as teachers sometimes dress up as the "God of Fire" to liven up the campfire.

The Toyohashi City Youth Nature House and Outdoor Education Center lends out "God of Fire" costumes, and this time, with the cooperation of Toyohashi City Kasei High School, students handled everything from design to production, renewing the "God of Fire" costume for the Youth Nature House for the first time in about 35 years!

From April 2026, the Reiwa-era "God of Fire," refreshed with the youthful sensibilities of high school students, will descend upon the Youth Nature House!

This time, four third-year students enrolled in Toyohashi City Kasei High School's Fashion Design Course II were in charge of producing the God of Fire costume.

Toyohashi City Kasei High School has a track record of producing the God of Fire costume for the Outdoor Education Center in 2013. We asked the high school students who produced this costume about their design points and impressions of the production.

The costume design was conceived while imagining the "God of Fire" who appears at campfires held at the "Youth Nature House" and "Outdoor Education Center."

◎The red and yellow frills draped over both shoulders represent "flames," with gathered sections as a key point.

◎To convey the divinity of the God of Fire to everyone, we searched for a fabric with a white base and gold accents.

◎Regarding the fabric, considering safety for use at campfires, we chose cotton material, which is less flammable than synthetic fibers. Only the shoulder parts, which resemble flames, use synthetic fiber and have snaps for detachability, making them easy to wash.

◎We designed and produced it to be adaptable to anyone, regardless of body type or gender. We also made a bag from the same fabric to store and carry the costume.

◇About the production period

We drew design sketches for the "God of Fire" as a summer homework assignment, and in the second semester, we went to inspect fabrics.

We purchased fabric in early January and completed the God of Fire costume in parallel with producing formal dresses and jackets in class.

◇Impressions of the production

Since it was progressing simultaneously with class assignments, we didn't have enough time, but we all brainstormed and exchanged ideas. It was challenging because it didn't quite take the shape of the design sketch, but we are happy that everyone will be able to use it!
