Tomi City, Nagano Prefecture, will hold a workshop titled "Kirari-san to! Wakuwaku Dialogue Appreciation in Tanaka Elementary School" on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at Tomi City Tanaka Elementary School, with talent Kisei Murayama as the guest.

Tomi City is implementing "Morning Appreciation" in its elementary and junior high schools, where students engage in dialogue while looking at works of art for 10 minutes before class. This workshop will allow participants to experience "dialogue appreciation," where they freely share their feelings and thoughts while looking at artworks in a school classroom, just like in the actual "Morning Appreciation."

During the summer break, why not experience "Morning Appreciation," an activity that children in Tomi City engage in daily, together with Kisei Murayama?

Art appreciation that begins with "what you feel," not knowledge

Dialogue appreciation is a method of appreciation that deepens each person's perspective and way of thinking by freely sharing what they feel and think when looking at an artwork, regardless of their knowledge about it.

It is characterized by encountering perspectives that one might not have noticed alone through dialogue among participants, such as "What is depicted?", "Why do you think so?", and "What other ways can it be viewed?"

By engaging with artworks while valuing each other's feelings and thoughts, rather than searching for a single correct answer, it becomes an accessible appreciation experience for everyone, from children to adults.

"Morning Appreciation" Spreading in Tomi City Schools

In Tomi City's elementary and junior high schools, "Morning Appreciation" is practiced, where teachers and children engage in dialogue appreciation together for 10 minutes before class, aiming to foster classrooms where mutual respect is valued.

In June of this year, the "Morning Appreciation Symposium" was held in the city, drawing attention from across the country to Tomi City's initiatives.

This workshop is being held as an opportunity for the general public to experience Tomi City's "Morning Appreciation."

Special Guest: Kisei Murayama

Talent Kisei Murayama will participate as a special guest in this workshop.

Together with Murayama, who loves drawing and creating art and dreams of becoming a picture book author, participants will experience the joy of looking at, feeling, and talking about artworks.
