Takatsuki City will begin its first leakage survey utilizing artificial satellites in July 2026, aiming to discover water leaks that could not be identified through previous survey methods, and to promote early detection and repair of leaks.
The leakage survey using artificial satellites will be conducted on water pipes buried throughout the city. This survey works by emitting microwaves from artificial satellites to the ground surface, detecting the unique reflected waves of tap water from underground. The obtained data will be analyzed to extract areas with potential water leaks. Subsequently, acoustic surveys and other methods will be performed in the extracted areas to pinpoint the leakage locations, followed by necessary repair work.
A staff member from the Waterworks Bureau's Pipeline Maintenance Section stated, "By introducing a new leakage survey method, we aim to prevent water sent from our distribution facilities from being wasted, connect it to revenue, and ensure a stable supply of tap water to our citizens."
