On Sunday, June 21, Reiwa 8, at Ama Site Park in Takatsuki City, the volunteer group Ama People's Club, which operates in the park, will host a "Rice Paddy Creature and Plant Search" event. Enjoy observing creatures and plants living in the paddy where ancient rice is grown, and get in touch with nature.
Ama Site Park is a representative urban park of Takatsuki City, developed on the site of a large moat settlement from the early Yayoi period (about 2,500 years ago), where rice cultivation began early in the Kinki region. You can trace Yayoi life through three areas: the "residential area" where Yayoi people built houses and surrounded them with moats, the "burial area" where graves were made, and the "production area" where rice paddies were cultivated. In the paddy, the volunteer group Ama People's Club grows ancient rice together with citizens.
This event is planned by the "Nature Group" and "Ancient Rice Group" within the Ama People's Club, aiming to give children who have fewer opportunities to touch nature a chance to feel the joy of playing in nature. Using hands or insect nets, participants catch and observe frogs, tadpoles, tadpole shrimp, etc., living in the paddy, and collect plants like a game while weeding the paddy to observe plants. Please join this event to learn about the connections of creatures and the importance of rice paddies through creature exploration.
