Applications for the spring program of "Open Takatsuki," an experiential exchange-type tourism program that allows participants to discover new charms of Takatsuki—filled with nature, history, gourmet food, and art—by actually "experiencing" them, will begin on Friday, May 1, Reiwa 8 (2026). Approximately 20 attractive programs are available, including a vintage sewing machine experience at a handmade goods store and a tour of the medicinal botanical garden at Osaka Medical and Pharmaceutical University, so please join us.
The popular "Open Takatsuki" spring program, organized by the Open Takatsuki Management Council, is about to begin. This time, too, many attractive programs unique to Takatsuki will be held.
First, we introduce the vintage sewing machine experience program at "Chikuchiku," a handmade goods store in Akutagawa. "Chikuchiku" is a hidden gem of a popular general store, known to those in the know, with handmade artists' works lining the nostalgic interior of a renovated old house. This time, you can enjoy making a crazy quilt coaster on a Showa retro vintage sewing machine that matches the nostalgic atmosphere of the store.
A visit to the medicinal botanical garden at Osaka Medical and Pharmaceutical University is also a recommended program. This botanical garden holds and cultivates over 700 types of medicinal plants and is usually open to the public. In this program, in addition to touring the garden, you can walk around the garden with Director Shibano, a professor at the Department of Clinical Kampo Medicine, Faculty of Pharmacy, Osaka Medical and Pharmaceutical University, and technical staff, and listen to explanations while seeing medicinal plants firsthand.
In addition, there are many attractive programs, such as the annually popular log-grown shiitake mushroom hunting experience and beetle collecting program at "Takatsuki Shiitake Center," a spring vegetable harvesting experience (onions, leaf lettuce, etc.) under the guidance of local farmers in the nature-rich Tsukawaki area, a program to enjoy cuisine at "Kokorone," a popular Japanese restaurant in the Kashida area, after Goma prayer and Zen meditation experience at Kamibuse-dera Temple, and a tour of the Takatsuki City Fire Department where you can experience an earthquake with an earthquake simulation vehicle and practice water discharge using hoses actually used in firefighting activities. Anyone, whether from within or outside the city, can enjoy these programs, so please join us.
