Takatsuki City to Hold "Takatsuki Shobu Lunch & Sweets" Prediction Campaign for Shogi Meijin-sen

Takatsuki City and the Takatsuki City Tourism Association are conducting a campaign to predict the "Takatsuki Shobu Lunch & Sweets" that the two Shogi players will order, aiming to boost excitement for the Shogi title match, the "84th Meijin-sen," to be held in the city. On April 24, Reiwa 8 (Friday), after publicly soliciting menus for lunch and sweets from local restaurants that Sota Fujii Meijin and Tetsuro Itodani 9-dan might want to eat, 11 popular lunch items and 12 Japanese and Western sweet items were selected as "Takatsuki Shobu Lunch & Sweets." From April 30 (Thursday) to May 13 (Wednesday), a campaign will be held for residents to predict which menus the two players will order.

To commemorate the holding of the "Meijin-sen," the Shogi world's most historic title match, in Takatsuki (84th term, 4th match, May 16 (Saturday) - 17 (Sunday), Reiwa 8), Takatsuki City widely recruited "Takatsuki Gourmet" that Sota Fujii Meijin and challenger Tetsuro Itodani 9-dan might want to eat, both self-nominated and nominated by others, using social media and the city's website. Out of a total of 221 menu items submitted, 11 items were selected as Shobu Lunches and 12 items as Shobu Sweets at the selection committee.

This prediction campaign aims to introduce the selected Shobu Lunches and Shobu Sweets to many people and to generate excitement for the Meijin-sen by having them participate in the initiative from a gourmet perspective. Votes will be cast from among 11 Shobu Lunches, such as "Toriten Vegetable-rich Curry" from "808 Curry & Vegetable," a popular curry shop with toppings of marinated, grilled, and deep-fried seasonal vegetables, and "Niboshi Soba" from "Menya Hakkaisan," which is particular about its chewy thick noodles, backfat, and dried sardine soup. Also available are 12 Shobu Sweets, including "Fruit Tart" from the popular shop "Koen to, Tart," which luxuriously uses seasonal fruits, and "Osho Chocolate Donut / Sugar Donut" from "Charinko Kissa 10," where the donut hole is shaped like a Shogi piece and has an enjoyable crunchy texture. The voting period is from Thursday, April 30, Reiwa 8 to Wednesday, May 13. One vote can be cast for Shobu Lunch and one for Shobu Sweets via the city's website. 30 winners, selected by lottery, will receive a drink discount ticket for "THE CITY BAKERY" located in Takatsuki Castle Park Arts and Culture Theater, as well as a curry spoon or dessert fork.
