In the Mishimae area, located in the southern part of Takatsuki City, the 'Renge no Sato' (Lotus Village), where lotus flowers are planted in rice paddies before rice planting, is open to the public again this year. Pink flowers are blooming profusely, creating a beautiful spring landscape.
The 'Takatsuki Renge Promotion Association,' organized by local farmers, is responsible for opening the lotus fields. The initiative began in 1982 when two farmers sowed lotus seeds in their rice paddies with the desire to 'let children play in the lotus fields.' Subsequently, the activity spread to other local farmers and has been cherished as a spring tradition for many years.
This year, blessed with good weather, the flowers have grown well and are currently in full bloom in many rice paddies, with visitors seen enjoying strolls while admiring the flowers. The public opening is until Thursday, April 30, Reiwa 8 (2026). Entry into the fields or picking flowers is not permitted. After the opening period, the lotus flowers will be plowed into the fields as compost, contributing to rice cultivation. Why not enjoy the lotus flowers in a peaceful rural landscape for a moment this spring?
