At the Sapporo International Art Festival (SIAF), the art festival is viewed as a "school of the future," and the "SIAF School," an ongoing program providing discovery, experience, and learning, has been held since 2023. We are pleased to announce the overview of the SIAF School program for the new fiscal year and the five participating artists who will join the program as participating artists for SIAF2027. The new fiscal year's program leading up to the next art festival, SIAF2027 (to be held from January 16 to February 21, 2027), will be more expansive than ever before. Please pay attention to the SIAF School, which creates touchpoints between citizens and art in daily life and educational settings.
SIAF2027 Open Talk | Overview of the 2026 Program
In 2026, we will upgrade and continue the following three initiatives built up so far. Together with the participating artists, we will seamlessly connect them to the SIAF2027 program.
Delivery Classes at Elementary and Junior High Schools in Sapporo
Since 2023, we have been conducting "delivery classes (*)" at elementary and junior high schools in the city. In the classes, we implement creative workshop programs co-developed by SIAF with artists, educators, and companies. This year, we plan to offer a total of four programs, including workshops incorporating programming and AR.
* In 2025, 1,509 students from 20 schools participated.
Education and Art Community "Education Cafe"
"Education Cafe" is a place to discuss issues and possibilities related to education and art. Based at the Sapporo Shiryokan (Former Sapporo Court of Appeals), educators, researchers, students, and artists gather about once every two months to challenge themselves in planning experimental programs. This year, in addition to further exploring STEAM education, we will hold a special event to present the results of these efforts during the SIAF2027 exhibition.
Fumu Fumu Project
The "Fumu Fumu Project" involves citizens actively participating in SIAF, serving as supporters connecting visitors to SIAF by guiding venues and artworks. This initiative, which began in 2021, will also accelerate its activities toward SIAF2027. This year, we will challenge the creation of a team specialized in accessibility for the first time, and the "Fumu Fumu Supporter Kids Version," where elementary and junior high school students play an active role as guides, will also be fully launched.

Sanae Akimoto, Fujimori, God Scorpion, Maki Satake, and Toshio Iwai have newly been decided as SIAF2027 participating artists. Furthermore, Wacom Co., Ltd., which has collaborated with us in the SIAF School program, will participate as an Initiative Partner (*1) following the previous art festival. These five artists and the Initiative Partner will participate in this year's SIAF School program, and in SIAF2027, they will hold exhibitions at the Sapporo Shiryokan (Former Sapporo Court of Appeals) and the Chuo Ward Complex, which are the stages for the SIAF School.
Additionally, after evening during the SIAF2027 exhibition period, outdoor projections (video projections on the exterior walls of the facility) will be held at the Sapporo Shiryokan (Former Sapporo Court of Appeals) venue. Along with the video works of the participating artists, the selected works of the "NEW CHITOSE Digital Signage Category (*2)" of the New Chitose Airport International Animation Festival are scheduled to be screened.
