■ "The Best Mix of City and Nature" - This is Sagamihara
Sagamihara City is a designated city located in the northern part of Kanagawa Prefecture in the southwestern part of the Tokyo metropolitan area. Six railway lines of JR East, Keio Corporation, and Odakyu Electric Railway run through the city. In recent years, with the successive openings of the Ken-O Expressway Sagamihara IC and Sagamihara-Aikawa IC, the city has continued to develop significantly against the backdrop of good transportation access, and in November, Reiwa 6 (2024), it celebrated its 70th anniversary.
The Sagami River crosses the middle of the city, with the Sagamihara Plateau to the east and the Tanzawa and Chichibu Mountains to the west. There are also many large parks such as Sagamihara Asamizo Park and Sagamihara Kita Park. While being highly convenient, with a one-hour trip to central Tokyo, it is a city rich in nature where you can feel close to rivers and mountains.
In July 2020, the city was selected by the national government as an "SDGs Future City" in recognition of its efforts to realize a sustainable society, such as the harmony between its developing urban areas and magnificent nature, and its initiatives to promote a symbiotic society. Furthermore, the city is expected to develop even further, with the Kanagawa Prefecture Station (tentative name) for the Linear Chuo Shinkansen scheduled to be located within the city in the future.
