Gunma Prefecture Launches Creative Experience Workshop 'tsukurun trial in Ota City'! Take Your First Step as a Digital Creator in Ota (Ota City, Gunma)

The digital creative experience workshop 'tsukurun trial in Ota City,' organized by Gunma Prefecture, will be held in Ota City for elementary, junior high, and high school students. This workshop provides an opportunity to experience the programs offered by 'tsukurun,' Gunma Prefecture's digital creative talent development hub, outside its main facility, allowing participants to learn game programming and other digital creation skills.

About 'tsukurun'

'tsukurun' is Japan's first prefecture-operated digital creative talent development hub, run by Gunma Prefecture. It offers creative experiences using cutting-edge digital equipment and software for elementary, junior high, and high school students. Guided by the philosophy 'Try before you learn, play before you study,' it nurtures future digital creators by respecting children's desire to 'create things.'

Overview of Ota City

Ota City (Ota-shi) is located in northern Kanto Plain, in the southeastern part of Gunma Prefecture. It is a nationally renowned industrial city centered on automobile manufacturing, while also blessed with natural beauty from the Tone and Watarase Rivers and the lush greenery of the Kanzan and Hachioji hills.

Situated at the 'neck' of Gunma Prefecture, famously described in the Joshu Karuta as 'the shape of a dancing crane,' Ota City lies within a 90-km radius of the capital region. The Higashi-Kanto Expressway passes through the northern part of the city, connecting to the Kan-etsu and Tohoku Expressways. Additionally, taking the Tobu Railway's express 'Ryomo' or 'Liberty Ryomo' from Asakusa or Kita-Senju Station, you can reach Ota Station in about 90 minutes, offering excellent access to central Tokyo.

Ota City: A Town of Manufacturing

Ota City has developed as a corporate castle town of SUBARU, centered on automobile manufacturing. Today, it has expanded into diverse fields such as food, home appliances, and outdoor goods, ranking first in Northern Kanto in manufacturing shipment value and standing as one of Japan’s leading manufacturing cities.

A Town of Sports

Ota City is the home town of the men’s professional basketball team 'Gunma Crane Thunders.' It also hosts SUBARU’s track and field team and hardball baseball team. The new arena 'OPEN HOUSE ARENA OTA,' completed in spring 2023, features Japan’s most advanced center vision and sound system, serving as a major sports hub for the city.

A Town of History

Ota City is the historic site of 'Yoshisada Nitta,' a renowned general featured in the classical literature 'Taiheiki,' who lived from the late Kamakura period through the Nanboku-chō period. The Nitta Manor Ruins (Nitta no Sho Iseki), scattered throughout the city, are designated as a national historic site. Additionally, the 'Kanzan Castle Ruins,' a famously impregnable fortress that repelled attacks by powerful warlords during the Sengoku period, is a popular attraction listed among Japan’s Top 100 Castles.

Ota City’s pride is the Ota City Art Museum and Library, located in front of Ota Station. It hosts planning exhibitions centered on contemporary art, as well as picture books, children’s literature, art books, and magazines on design, fine arts, and architecture from around the world. Visitors can enjoy the architecture—such as slopes and spiral staircases—while casually browsing like window shopping. The first floor features a café, and the top floor has a rooftop garden, offering a relaxing space to unwind.

A Town of Agriculture

Ota City’s specialty products include yamatoimo (Japanese mountain yam), small watermelons, 'Yoyehime' strawberries, and 'Brick Nine' tomatoes. The city also boasts high production volumes of spinach, moroheiya, and green onions. Additionally, livestock farming is highly developed, including dairy farming, beef cattle fattening, pig farming, and poultry farming.
